

Evalyn was born in Cook, MN. on September 22, 1918 to Ole and Mary Huseby. She graduated from Cook High School and then attended St. Luke’s School of Nursing, graduating in January, 1941. On January 16, 1943 she married Carl D. Eklund and they moved to Minneapolis where she worked at the University Health Service while Carl completed medical school. They later moved back to Duluth and Evalyn started and operated The Eklund Nursing Home in Brookston, MN from 1949-1961. She was past president of the St. Louis County Medical Auxiliary. She also did volunteer work for St. Luke’s Hospital. Evalyn was a member of Chester Park United Methodist Church.
Evalyn loved to work the crossword puzzles and thoroughly enjoyed a good game of Scrabble. She had a bountiful raspberry patch from which she made her spectacular jam. She was an amazing cook and was revered by her family for her incredible pies. In her younger years she loved to head up north with her family to go fishing. She was hard working, generous, kind, and so very loving to her family and friends. The legacy she has left behind will be cherished by her family for generations to come. We’ll never forget you mom (Evie).
Evalyn was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, in 2004, sisters Myra, Bea, and Amy and brothers Oliver, Willard, and Elroy.
Evalyn is survived by her sons Carl (Sharon) of Duluth, Laird (Barbara) of Victorville, CA., and Dale (Carol) of Duluth, and sister Edythe Wesanen of Duluth; along with ten grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the 10 A.M. memorial service on Friday, October 21, 2011 at Chester Park United Methodist Church 819 North 18th Ave. E. Duluth with Rev. Sam Kautz officiating. Burial will be in Culver Cemetery, Culver, MN.
