

She was born on September 23, 1935 in Superior, Wisconsin to Raymond Baylow and Frances Martin. She grew up and went to school in Superior, graduating from Superior Central High School in 1953. Upon graduating Marian became a lab technician at The Duluth Clinic. She then worked for Dr.’s Eckman, Johnson, and Dwyer until she married Dale M. Johnson of West Duluth in 1954. They started their own tile business to be known as Johnson Carpet & Tile Co. in 1955 in West Duluth. Marian became Vice President and assisted in sales. Later she became President as husband Dale got into real estate development. Two of their four children, Paul, Terry and son-in-law David Fulda then took over the business.
Marian loved to read and travel the globe. Upon retiring, she enjoyed her waterfront home in West Duluth and traveling to their condo in Pompano Beach, FL. She also enjoyed her companionship from classmates, neighbors and friends at Our Saviors Lutheran Church and the Aad Shrine Drum and Bugle Corps. She was the most loving, caring, kind hearted and compassionate person, mother and grandmother anyone could know. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her father Raymond and half sister Elaine.
Marian is survived by her husband of 57 years, Dale Maynard Johnson; her son Paul M.; daughters, Lee Ann Johnson, Terry (David) Fulda, Catherine (Craig Miller) Johnson; grandchildren, Lindsey (Ted) Johnson, Jennie (Erik) Parks, Brandon M. Johnson, Josephine “Josie” Miller and Isabel Miller; mother Frances Martin; sister Toni (Mickey Webster) Mathews; brother Raymond Balow Jr.; half sister Nancy Balow Jenkins and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Visitation will be held from 4-6 P.M. on Sunday, August 14, 2011 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church 4831 Grand Ave. West Duluth and again one hour prior to the funeral service at 11 A.M. on Monday, August 15, 2011 at the church. She will be laid to rest at Oneota Cemetery following lunch at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Our Saviors Lutheran Church Foundation, Masonic Cancer Center or Shriners Children’s Hospital.
