Shirley was born to Lawrence and Mary Nelson on October 13, 1936. There was nothing she couldn’t do, from sewing clothes for her boys, to remodeling her home, carpentry, painting, yard work, gardening, and even teaching the boys how to cook and how to gut deer. Truly she was one of a kind that you could seldom find today. She taught her boys what’s right and what’s wrong and there is nothing in between. She lived by those words throughout her life.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Alvin Johnson; 4 wonderful sons, Gregory (Diane) Johnson of Boca Raton, FL, Douglas Johnson (fiancée Susan Beyer) of Burnsville, MN, Glenn (Susan) Johnson of Duluth and Ronald (Tina) Johnson of Lakeville, MN; 7 handsome grandsons and 1 beautiful granddaughter; 3 sisters, Marilyn (Jim) Ward of Mauldin, SC, Betty Erickson of Duluth and Joan Shehon of Mission Hills, CA.
The family would like to thank Dr. Gollner and all the staff at Lakeshore Home for all the loving care and kindness they showed.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M. on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at Bell Brothers Jarvi Dowd Funeral Home 925 E. 4th St. and again one hour prior to the service at the church.
