It is with great sadness that we announce Achim “Al” Dietmar Lefevre passed away peacefully in the Cowichan District Hospital on March 30, 2018 with his family by his side. He leaves his wife of almost 50 years, Sheila, with good memories. He also leaves his daughter Lynda Hay; his son Keith Lefevre; his grand-daughter Britt Hay; as well as his brother Horst, sister Marianne (Harold) and their families in Germany. Al is predeceased by his parents Erwin and Hildegard Lefevre; his sister Helga and her husband Richard; and sister-in-law Rasel Lefevre.
Al was born on September 7, 1935 in Berlin, Germany. When he was young, Al liked to scuba dive and when he was older he took up amateur radio as a hobby. He trained as a painter in Germany and at the age of 20 years he immigrated to Canada. When he arrived, he started cooking for a living and was a cook for the tug boats with Sea Span International for almost 32 years.
Al and Sheila were married July 19, 1968. They moved to Sooke, then Colwood, and finally settled in Cobble Hill. Sheila was proud of her husband. He was a neat guy and had a great sense of humour with a German twist – not always what you wanted to hear! He took very good care of his family. Al, Sheila and the kids camped and travelled to many placed over the years. The amateur radio club also provided many adventures.
Special thanks to his two nurses Kate and Tara, and to all the doctors who helped Al on his final journey. We would also like to thank our family, friends and neighbours for their love and support.
By request, there will be no service.
We love you Al and Dad
