Before passing Chuck forged a long trail of laughter, generosity, compassion and wisdom.
His family was always the most important thing to him and he was always invested in their endeavours. Asking and answering the right questions to get them all on track and showing he cared and listened by sending magazine and internet articles ever afterwards on whatever they were into at the time.
Chuck is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Gail Wright nee Hodgson, by his son Gary and the loving family of 4 nieces and nephews, 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren and a myriad of spouses and partners. Chuck was predeceased by his son Jimmy, his sister Carrol Jenkins, his daughters in law Patricia and Diane Wright and his grand daughter Tammy.
Chuck was born in Pasadena, California in 1926. His family was originally from NB and returned to Canada in 1931.
After a number of moves around eastern Canada he settled in Port Dalhousie, Ont.
Chuck was an avid boater and became Commodore of the Dalhousie Yacht Club and Commander of the local Power and Sail squadron. He was also Deputy Reeve of the local Town Council. On moving to Toronto he founded the North York Power Squadron and was their Commander and was also Fleet Captain of Power at the National Yacht Club.
He joined the Walter Kidde Co, a Fire and explosion Suppression Co. and was later transferred to Montreal where he met and married Gail. He was then transferred to Vancouver to open an office there. After 5 years Chuck and Gail started their own successful business “Systematic Fire Control”, primarily protecting computer rooms with fire suppression systems. Chuck and Gail retired in 1988 and became “Pioneers” in the Arbutus Ridge community on Vancouver Island. This move started over 30 years of golfing and RVing around Canada and the US, seeing family and visiting and making friends along the way each winter. Chuck was an avid golfer although he didn’t start golfing until later in life but he made up for it with a passion and skill that was enviable. Chuck will be remembered for all his hobbies and passions. His golf, specially the nineteenth hole, his rum and wine making, the D.D.’s, the snake pit, and his pea pool and poker groups. Chuck was an eloquent speaker and was often called upon to speak at events. Maybe his best and most missed attribute was his dry and wonderful sense of humour which only got better as he aged. He will be missed by all his friends and family.
He was generous to a fault, gentle at heart, and yet he sugar coated absolutely nothing.
No service at his request and in lieu of flowers donations to the BC Heart and stroke foundation would be appreciated.
Thank you to all the Doctors and Nurses who took excellent care of Chuck during his last weeks in hospital, especially Megan. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.firstmemorialduncan.com for the Wright family.
