Born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Darlene passed away peacefully at home in Maple bay with family by her side on February 26, 2020 at the age of 83. After a courageous battle with cancer, she left us on her terms with love, dignity and respect.
A remarkable lady, cherished Mom & forever partner. She always looked after her family first and inspired us to be who we are. Darlene will be greatly missed by her husband of 65 years, James (Jim), her 4 children, Mark (Barbara), Kathie, Steven (Rachel Barton), Michael (Kathleen); 4 grandchildren Jessica, Benjamin (Mark & Barb), Cydney, Samantha (Mike & Kathleen); 2 great-grandchildren Hadley and Jaxon (Jessica); her brother Lee (Marlene) Ganyo, many brother and sister-in-laws, nephews and nieces. She is predeceased by her parents LeRoy and Evelyn Ganyo, her sisters Beverly Ferguson, Patricia Boughen and brother Danny Ganyo.
Darlene met Jim in Moose Jaw where they married in 1955 and had their 4 children. They had lots of adventures over the years with moves to Uranium City Sask; Lloydminster Ab; Devon Ab; Calgary Ab, Columere Park B.C. and Maple Bay (Duncan) BC along with camping trips to many different destinations on family vacations. The adventures continued on travels to Hawaii, the Caribbean, London England, Shanghai China, cruises to Alaska, Panama Canal and the Mediterranean as well as trips to several places in the US and many provinces in Canada. Darlene worked at Sears in Lloydminster, Alberta School for the Deaf in Edmonton where she learned sign language and Alberta Labor Standards in Calgary. After retiring, Dar and Jim moved full time to their vacation home in Columere Park, BC. She became a skilled golfer and developed her gardening skills before moving to Maple bay where she continued her flower gardening to attract her beloved hummingbirds and butterflies while being close to the ocean waves and breathtaking sunsets at Maple Bay and Tofino.
Dar’s family wishes to express their thanks for the care and kindness provided by Harmony Health Care, Island Health Medical staff and Dr. Tom Rimmer.
A date and time for a memorial service will be announced in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Cowichan Valley Hospital Foundation in Duncan, B.C.
