Denis Anthony Stead

Denis passed away in the Cowichan District Hospital on October 9th.

In 1958 he married Trudy Cain of Duncan, who passed away in 2017. He leaves two sons: Christopher (Vancouver) and Tony (Victoria). Also survived by one sister (Ursula Hann, Surrey) and two brothers (Humphrey, Duncan) and (Robin, Nanaimo).

Born in Jersey (Channel Islands), Denis came to the Cowichan Valley with his family in 1936. He attended St George’s School in Vancouver and became an accountant and worked in Venezuela, New York, Montreal and finally Vancouver. He retired from the accounting firm of KPMG in 1989 and he and Trudy returned to the Valley, where he made many new friends (mainly golfers) and was reunited with family members.

In the Valley he lived first in the Cobble Hill area and then moved to the Garth. After Trudy’s passing and with increasing health problems, he moved to The Hamlets Senior Care Home for his last years. The family is grateful to Dr. Dan Phillipson for his care of both Denis and Trudy over many years.

The funeral will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at First Memorial Funeral Services, 375 Brae Road, Duncan, BC.
