Elva I Forrest

13 octubre , 193416 marzo , 2020

"So you see, if I can make you smile I've accomplished what I want in life,” and that she did. Elva was a daughter, sister, mother, grandma, great grandma, auntie, confidant, story teller, poet, volunteer, cook, dancer, green thumb and friend who has now reunited with her beloved father Harvey Hazard, six predeceased siblings and many dear friends where they've been saving her a seat in the very front row. Elva was the rock in the lives of so many of her close family and friends and she will continue to be long after she has physically left this world. Elva had many struggles in her life and often got through them on her own, she was strong so others didn't have to be. She never gave up largely because of her three beautiful daughters Barb (Murray) Lee, Sherrene (Don) Ross and Tara (Wade) Brooks who she drew her strength from. Elva had a knack for making the small things special. She loved to have a good laugh and once you got her going the laughing was contagious. She showed her love for her family by showing up, no event, celebration or game too small, she was always there. Elva had many passions. She was entranced by flowers since a young age and it was rare to open a book in her house and not find flowers pressed between the pages; her favorite being pink carnations. She loved to cook and brought an energy to the kitchen not to be rivaled. Many of her loved ones have fond memories of her dancing around a kitchen, be it family dinner or a catering event, you were lucky to get a taste of her home cooking. When Elva wasn't gardening or cooking you could probably find her playing cards. She would never turn down a game of cards and seemed to have a life-long winning streak. She spent many nights around the table laughing and playing games. Elva will be sorely missed by her little sister Lee, and everyone who knew her. She may not have gotten to do everything she dreamed of in her life but her grandchildren, Naomi, Elyssa, Vanessa, Tyrone, Nathan, Carmen, Robin and Miles will continue to carry her with them. She taught us to always appreciate what you have and to give all that you can. She taught us to answer the phone and call the people you care about and tell them you love them. She taught us when to work hard and when to have a good time. Elva was strong, independent, loyal and all the things we can hope to be. Memories are the loveliest things, they last from day to day, they don't get lost, they can't wear out and can never be thrown away.

Condolences to you on the passing of a wonderful mother. Always loved bumping into Elva as she was full of stories and was busy enjoying whatever activity she was involved in. She was a big help organizing volunteers for the Great Lake Walk

So sorry Sherrene and Tara. Just looking at the Lake Cowichan news and your mothers picture caught my eye. I had no idea she was your mom as I did not recognize the name. Still, I read the obituary as she looked like a loving, giving warm woman and how right I was! I’m guessing you both got your solid labour conscience from your mom as she was born in Saskatchewan, the home of Tommy Douglas. My deepest sympathy to you and your families.
