Passed away on October 9, 2017 in Duncan, BC. He is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Heather Robb, daughter Lori (David) Orr, son Gordon (Sheree) Gable, brothers Norm (Cathy) Gable, Steve Gable, cousin Eva (Lea) Maye, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Bev and Hans Goes, Ron Robb and Jan Lovewell, his first wife, Ann Petersen and many nieces and nephews.
Eric graduated from UBC Medical School in 1966 and after completing his internship at Royal Columbian Hospital served as a Medical Officer with the Canadian Armed Forces HQ, Allied Forces Central Europe, Brunssum, The Netherlands. From 1970 through to 2009 he devoted himself to General Practice in Prince George and the Greater Vancouver area. From 2009 to 2012 he served as a Medical Advisor for WorksafeBC and then went on to finishing his career at the BC Cancer Agency in Abbotsford as a GP in Oncology finally retiring in 2016. Eric also was a volunteer at Saint John Ambulance and from 1994 to 1996 served as the Provincial Medical Officer for SJA Brigade. In 1997 he was invested as a member of The Order of Saint John.
Eric was loved by his patients, colleagues and co-workers as a compassionate and caring physician. To his family and friends he was kind, gentle and caring. He was a humble man with an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for medicine and business. He was known for his sharp, playful humour that was never at someone else's expense. He had a lifelong love of reading and learning and was never more content than sitting with a good book in hand whether at home or in beautiful locations around the world.
Special thanks go out to his colleagues and co-workers at the BCCA in Abbotsford for helping to make his final years in practice so satisfying and to Dr. Valerie Masuda and the Palliative Care Team in Duncan for their incredible care and support over the past year.
A private Family Memorial has been held.
