It is with very heavy hearts that the family of Richard (Ric) Tull announce his sudden passing on May 9, 2023. A devoted husband and father, who’s passion for everything he did was infectious. A genuinely thoughtful, respectful individual who was taken too soon.
Richard was born in Vernon, BC, in 1953 and lived in Lumby until he left for university. In his early years, he enjoyed many sports, including baseball, hockey, judo, swimming, skiing, rugby, triathlons, scuba diving, and track and field. He spent many summers working as a lifeguard at several of the local Lumby/Vernon beaches and pools. It wasn’t until he was working on his Chemical Engineering degree at UBC that he found the sport that he was truly passionate about and that was rowing. He made many friends both here and abroad as he competed at regattas and World Masters Rowing Competitions.
Ric’s second passion was his work. He worked at many mills in Canada and the USA as a Papermill Consultant and specifically loved his 5 years in Corner Brook Newfoundland fulfilling his dream of being a Papermill VP striving to make a real difference in the mill. Most recently, he continued this work with Kruger Inc. as a specialized consultant. His mill buddies still got together every Friday night for a beer and some friendly banter and he loved that.
His final passion was his family. All the things that Ric had accomplished in his life took second place to how proud he was of his children. He and his wife Deb raised three very respectful, kind, and compassionate children and that made his life very full. His granddaughters were the cherry on the cake of life.
Ric leaves behind his loving wife Debra, whom he had been with since he was 18; his daughter Keri (husband Antony, daughters Olivia and Ellie); his daughter Vanessa; son Sean (partner Alex); brother Tom (wife Carrol, and daughters Marnee and Coree). He was predeceased by his mother Alleyne, his father Tom, and his sister Victoria.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 8, 2023, at Brentwood College School in Crook's Hall from 2 to 5 pm.
