Dick passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025, at the age of 100 years. Dick and his family enjoyed country living in the Cowichan Valley, where everyone participated in creating a happy rural lifestyle they remember with great pleasure. He raised a variety of two and four legged creatures on his hobby farm. Dick was also dedicated to nurturing his vegetable and flower gardens. He provided enviable produce to family and friends until his 97th year!
After training with Canadian Armed Forces, Dick then enrolled at UBC, graduating with a BSc in Agriculture. He qualified as a teacher and moved to Duncan in 1960. Former staff at Mount Prevost and George Bonner schools will remember Mr. Rodman. He dutifully served the Cowichan School District in various capacities for thirty years. Students, teachers and support staff from both schools recall his caring nature, and still speak highly of him.
Dick leaves behind his devoted wife of 71 years, Hilda. His children, Angela (Dallas), Jeanine (Gordon) and Christopher (Emma) will miss him deeply. Dick had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren Lia (Guy), Stephanie (Shannon), Spencer (Liz), Caitlin (Matt) and Lauren (Trung). His Australian great granddaughters, Jolie and Celeste, will be sad to lose Great Granddad, as will his special great grandson, Arden, of Philadelphia.
Dick grew up in Victoria BC, in a large and loving family. He was preceded in death by his pop Sidney Thomas Rodman and his mum Beatrice Mary, both English immigrants who arrived to Canada in 1910. He was predeceased by an infant son in 1959, and by his sisters Kathleen, Estelle, Violet, Dorothy, Muriel, Sybil, and Victoria. He is survived by his loving older sister, Goldie, as well as by numerous significant relatives and friends.
A service of remembrance for Dick Rodman will be held in 2026.
