Stan will be missed by all who knew him. Loving husband and best friend to Paula for 28 years. Father to Kathryn (Jim) and John. Grandfather to Leah (Ethan), Kamryn and Morgan. Great-grandfather to Esther and Emory. Stepfather to Lisa, Missy (Travis) and Allison. Pet father to many dogs over his life, and missing him now is Chiquita. Stan was born in Toronto, Ontario, in 1936 to Joseph and Anne Myers, the youngest of 5 children. Stan was predeceased by his siblings Lilian, Gladys, Joseph (Bub) and Bert.
Stan lived in Toronto and Willowdale growing up, and graduated from Earl Haig HS. He loved school and sports, especially basketball. Inspired by teachers and coaches in his life, he went to Toronto Teacher’s College and started his career in education at age 19.
Stan taught many different grades in elementary, middle and secondary schools and found his calling as a Vice-Principal and Principal of secondary schools, Thornhill, Woodbridge and Aurora. He retired from York Region at age 53, after 35 years and began a second career organizing school trips. He still loved educating and traveling.
Stan retired from it all to be able to sail and travel. He and Paula spent his retirement sailing the Caribbean, living in Mexico, traveling everywhere and eventually moving to Vancouver Island. In retirement he loved learning new languages, playing poker and began a hobby of painting.
Besides traveling, painting and sailing, his other passion was sports, especially following the Toronto teams. The Leafs, Blue Jays and Raptors were all sources of joy and frustration for him.
Stan will be remembered for his love of educating, travel, sports, his entertaining stories, a warm smile and big laugh.
We will miss him forever.
