

Mr. Edward Walker “Ed” Powers, Jr., 70, of Dunn died Monday, December 29 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. He was born January 15, 1944 in Wayne County, son of the late Edward Walker Powers, Sr. and Ferbie Dorman Powers. He was also preceded in death by five sisters, Ruby Wood, Rosalie Wrench, Peggy McLeod, Nadine West and Billie Faye Allen. Mr. Powers served in the U.S. Army Reserve and the National Guard and was a member of American Legion Post #59. He worked for Carolina Telephone in Dunn and Fayetteville, was retired from the Harnett Correctional Facility and was a retired Ordained PFWB Minister. He was also a former member of Dunn Fire & Rescue. He was a Shriner, a former Sudan Dunn Clown and was a member of Palmyra Masonic Lodge #147 AF & AM in Dunn. He was also a member of Stoney Run PFWB Church. A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 1 at 11:00 A.M. at Stoney Run PFWB Church with Rev. Rick Kelly and Rev. Preston Heath officiating. Burial will follow in Devotional Gardens. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Tart Powers, two sisters, Shelba Jernigan and Linda Wilkins both of Dunn and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 1 from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. at Stoney Run PFWB Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Stoney Run PFWB Church Building Fund, 12481 Harnett-Dunn Hwy., Dunn, NC 28334 or to Heritage Bible College, PO Box 1628, Dunn, NC 28335.
