Margaret S. Blackman

Margaret Spence Blackman of Erwin, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2018 at her home, being 96 years of age. She was born in Harnett County, North Carolina on October 8, 1921 to the late Frank Spence and the late Ethel Mclean Spence. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son Shelton Spence, Sr., grandson Garrett Blackman, sister Mytle Butler and brothers: Leon, Julian, Thomas and Artis Spence. She worked for many years at Burlington Mills where she met the love of her life, James Blackman. On March 28, 1948 they were wed and to this union three children were born. Margaret was a member of the Erwin United Methodist Church. She was a crafty lady who enjoyed working with her hands. Most of all, Margaret enjoyed spending time surrounded by her friends and loving family.

Margaret leaves behind to cherish her memories her loving husband of nearly 70 years, James Blackman; son: Dallas Blackman of Erwin, NC; daughter: Barbara Raynor of Linden, NC; brother: Franklin Spence and wife Dannie of Grandy, NC; sisters: Doris (Mozell) Tyndall of Dunn, NC and Ethylene Shannon of Stockton, CA; grandchildren: Keith Raynor, Shelton Spence, Jr., and Nicole Raynor Cain; great-grandchildren: Shania Spence, Lara Spence Horn, Shelton Spence, III, Cameron Raynor, Barrett Raynor, Patrick Raynor, Drew Eaker, Megan Eaker, Colton Eaker and Addison Cain, seven great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

A funeral service to commemorate the life of Margaret Spence Blackman will be conducted on Monday, February 5, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. in the sanctuary of Erwin United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Mitchell officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Harnett Devotional Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 4, 2018 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Cromartie-Miller Funeral Home.
