Rev. Ralph Mac Wood age 83 of Erwin, went home to his reward on Thursday, February 14, 2019. He was born September 12, 1935 in Sampson County to the late Richard Wood and the late Edith Pope Wood. He was also preceded in death by his wife Jane Riddle Wood after 59 years of marriage; two brothers: Joe Wood and Wallace Wood and sister: Mary Laura Faircloth. Ralph heard God’s calling to preach the gospel when he was 17 years old. In 1968, he was called to build a church and serve as pastor at Duncan Church of God. Over the course of over 60 years, God called him to pastor 12 different churches throughout the state of North Carolina. He was an Ordained Bishop with the Church of God and served as a District Overseer and on the Church of God Orphanage Board.
Ralph was a living example of the scripture that says, “I will give you life more abundantly.” He lived his life to the fullest. Whenever you would ask Ralph how he was doing, he would simply respond “I’m doing 100.” He loved to fish and camping at Holden Beach. He also enjoyed hunting. He believed in Jesus and duct tape, both of which could fix anything. If you didn’t know his Jesus, all you had to do was take a little ride with him while he was driving, you would be praying by the end of the trip. He loved to wheel and deal at his flea markets and spending time with his friend Johnny Norris. He was a dedicated pastor, devoted father, loving husband and doting grandfather.
Ralph leaves behind to honor his legacy, his wife: Frances Norris Wood; sons: Barry Wood and wife Kathy of Sanford and Pastor Sammy Wood and wife Meta of Tarboro; daughter: Letitia “Cookie” Moss and husband Tim of Erwin; step-son: Brian Hartman of Plainview; step-daughter: Tracie McLaughlin and husband Tim of Beaufort; grandchildren: Ryan and wife Jo Anna, Amanda and husband Nick, Samuel, Nicole and husband Randall, Kylie and Paige; seven great-grandchildren; four legged daughter: Shu Shu, and a host of Nieces and nephews, family and friends.
