loving wife of the late Frank; dear mother of Mary Jo (Donald) Fornes, Moira (Robert) Martin, James (Eileen), Rosemary (Robert) Gemp and the late Timothy (Nora) Cass; also survived by 20 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; sister of Joan Linnan and the late Glen Meyers, Jack Meyers and Jane O’Leary.

June Helen Cass of Clarence Center, a longtime artist who taught at the former Eggert Road School, died May 13 under hospice care at Brompton Heights in Amherst. Last year, she celebrated her 100th birthday.

Born in Buffalo, the former June Helen Meyers graduated from Kenmore High School and earned a fine arts degree from the University of Buffalo in 1936. In the late 1960s, she studied under the tutelage of George Palmer, widely known Buffalo portrait artist.

Mrs. Cass taught art at the Eggert Road School at 1085 Eggert Road in Amherst, from 1937 to 1942. An active member of the Williamsville Art Society for many years, she also taught art in her home both in Buffalo and Syracuse. She continued to paint well into her 90s, and many of her paintings were exhibited at local venues.

In 1972, she moved to Syracuse because of her husband’s work. The couple returned to Buffalo in 1998.

Mrs. Cass was known as a talented designer and seamstress who had studied pattern design under Eve Klipfel, respected Buffalo fashion designer who wrote books on pattern-making and dress design. She also enjoyed gardening and was the recipient of several local awards.

Her husband of 73 years, Frank Cass, died in 2012.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Jo Fornes, Moira Martin and Rosemary Gemp; a son, James F.; a sister, Joan Linnan; 20 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary’s Church, 6919 Transit Road, Swormville.
