Dorothy and her husband, the late Charles L. Hutchinson, were married in 1947 at St. Jude's Episcopal Church, Buffalo. She served on many committees and held leadership roles in the church, and continued her relationship with it after Charles' death in 2000.
Mrs. Hutchinson was an executive secretary for the accounting firm of Ernst & Ernest until her retirement in the mid-sixties. In 1961 she served as the Worthy Matron of Lackawanna Chapter No. 502 Order of the Eastern Star. She and Charles were members of the Clan Donald Society and travelled to Scotland and regional clan events to enjoy and promote the activities of their heritage. They were also avid supporters of the Boy Scouts of Amercia program, and she continued her patronage during her lifetime.
Dorothy was a member of the East Aurora Garden Club and served as president as well as in other leadership roles. In 2012 she was accorded the rare honor of "Life Membership". She was instrumental in helping to establish and fund the Hospice Organization in East Aurora. Along with her personal support, she donated profits from antique and garage sales that were held at her house.
Dorothy and her husband, Charles, organized 4th of July parades and hosted celebrations at their home. Dorothy was known as the "candy lady" to the children in the neighborhood. Many of these same children, when they became parents, brought their children to her house to enjoy her company, knowledge, leadership and advice.
"Mrs. H" was and will remain to be an inspiration and positive role model for not only her nieces and nephews but her community.
