Helen Sawyer

SAWYER - Helen B. Of East Aurora, NY and Silver Lake, NY. Beloved mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2015 in Rochester, NY, at the age of 82. Helen is predeceased by her father, Boleslaw Budzynski, sister Charlotte Zubek, and brothers Henry and Edward Budzynski. She is survived by her children Michael Duchnick, Lynn (Marty) Howden, Robert Duchnick, and Chuck (Patti) Sawyer; grandmother of Luke (Rachel), Marly, Justin (Marcy), Tracy, Jesse (Patricia), Jeffrey, Christian and Jeremy; great-grandmother of Jesse D.; also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Following a lengthy career as an exemplary secretary, Helen became a full-time college student at age 44. She graduated with a Bachelor's of Science degree from SUNY Geneseo. Helen went on to earn a Master's of Business Administration from SUNY Brockport. Serving as the Business Manager of the Perry School District and the Business Administrator of East Aurora School District, Helen was the first woman to hold both positions. She was an active volunteer with both the East Aurora Kiwanis Club and Habitat for Humanity in Buffalo, NY. Helen's family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the staff of St. John's Home of Rochester for the compassion and kindness they extended to her and her family during the time she was in their care. Calling hours will be held Saturday, September 19th from 3 PM-7 PM at the WOOD FUNERAL HOME, 784 Main Street, East Aurora. A memorial service and celebration of Helen's life will be held on Sunday, September 20th, 3 PM at The Roycroft Inn, 40 South Grove Street, East Aurora.
