

Aida Luz Ortiz, 68, of East Hartford, beloved wife of Reinaldo Ortiz, passed away peacefully at home under the care of her loving daughter, on August 19, 2012, and was surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Cayey, Puerto Rico on September 12, 1943, a daughter of the late Humberto Nunez and Justina Vazquez.
Aida was a proud, strong, wise, very spiritual, loving and caring woman. She was the cornerstone in keeping the family close together. She was devoted to her family, instilling her values of faith, strength, education, loyalty and love to her children. She had a strong work ethic; retiring after working 28 years for First Brands Corp of East Hartford. Aida was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed flowers, especially her garden that her husband Reinaldo took care of and she enjoyed reading. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her husband, Aida is survived by her children, her daughter and best friend Aida Luz Mancini and her husband Michael of Tolland, her son Magdiel Ortiz and his wife Carmen of Manchester, her son Melvin Ortiz and his wife Carol of Manchester, grandchildren Carolyn Lisa Colon, Ricardo Gonzalez, Justin Magdiel Ortiz, she was very blessed and grateful to God to see and hold her first great granddaughter Makayla Star Tardif.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center for their love and excellent care.
Friends and family are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, August 23rd, from 5-9PM at the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, CT 06108. Funeral Services will begin at 9AM on Friday, August 24th, 2012 at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30AM, at St. Peter’s Church, 160 Main Street, Hartford, CT. Burial to follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
