

Alfred Walter Klein, 88, of Manchester, passed away peacefully at home on December 21, 2016. He was the beloved husband of the late Alice (Zaleski) Klein for 54 years. Alfred was born on May 26, 1928 in Manchester, son of the late John and Anna (Suchy) Klein.
Al was a graduate of Manchester High School in 1946, and University of Hartford and proudly served in the United States Army in the Topographic Engineers during World War II, in occupied Japan. Al was employed as an accountant with CT General Life and Cigna Insurance for 28 years, retiring in 1984. As an extremely talented athletic man, he played baseball for many local teams and was a member of CT General Life duck pin bowler leagues also at Holiday Lanes in Manchester. Al was an avid Red Sox baseball fan.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, who cherished his family. He was an inspiration to many and a friend to everyone. Al will be deeply missed by all.
He is survived by his children; Anna Klein of Manchester, Charles Klein and his wife Carol of Tolland, Cheryl Antosik and her husband John of Manchester of whom Alfred lived with, Kathleen Williams and her husband Peter of Bolton, grandchildren Matthew Antosik, Brett Antosik, Emma Petersen, Samuel Cowles, Margaret Cowles, April Geer and her husband Lenny, Samantha Knapp, Diana St. Cyr and great grandchildren Emily, Katlyn, Sydney, Alexandria, Kylie and Jacob.
In addition to his wife, Alfred is predeceased by his brother Arthur George Klein.
Friends and family are invited to attend services at Benjamin J. Callahan Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave, East Hartford CT 06108 on Thursday, December 29, 2016 beginning with a calling hour from 10-11am, followed immediately by a Celebration of Life Service at 11am.
