I am very saddened to learn of Mrs. Gauthier's passing.  My 2 sisters and I had her as a teacher at Barnes Elementary approximately 30 years ago. She was a favorite of ours. Two of us were able to reconnect with her and visit her in our adulthood. She had a very memorable sense of humor, smile, and laugh.  I will always remember her relating to me as a "middle child."  I also had Mr. Gauthier as a teacher in 7th grade. They were such a special couple.

I was so sorry to read of your sister's passing.  I fondly remember visits to your home on Francis street as a kid.  Your parents were always so kind & ready to share produce from their big backyard garden.  Christmas cards from "Santa" Freddie were extra special to me back then.

My Mom (Anne Kuhney) was always so pleased to chat with Betty if they happened to met her when dining out somewhere.  Mom always appreciated Betty's tales of the latest happenings of the Hoffman girls.  She never forgot Betty's friendly ways and happy smile.

May you have some comfort in knowing what an impact Betty had for so many East Hartford students.

In just 10 days in the Netherlands we met and came to know Betty.  She was a woman of quick wit and humor.  Her passion for meeting new people and exploring new places was so clear. I went to Burnside School and East Hartford High with Betty - we graduated together.  She always had a "can do" attitude and an ear to ear smile on her face.  A joy to be around.  I'll miss you Betty.

We will so miss seeing Betty come through our door and the wonderful conversations we all had with her about East Hartford or the latest book she was reading.  We loved to see her smiling face - a delightful lady - who brought a lot of sunshine to our mornings.

Our Heartfelt Thoughts and Prayers to the Family

Betty has always been "Aunt Betty" for as long as I can remember. Uncle Bob and Aunt Betty were always there for the important things in our lives. I will cherish the memories of her laugh, her smile and most of all the kind, gentle and giving person that she chose to be to all of us. We are truly blessed to have known and shared our lives with such a loving person.

With heavy hearts - we will miss you.

Mrs. Gauthier was strong and true. She was one of my greatest influences. I remember her passion and the look in her eyes when she taught. She was always spot on with everything, and set her goals high for her students. I will miss her. My prayers for her close friends and family. She was and always will be inspiring and one of my best teachers ever!

So sorry to hear of Mrs. Gauthier's passing. I had her at O'Connell and remember her clearly. She was a very good teacher with the longest braids I've ever known someone to wear. Her love of history was clear and I'm sure she inspired many of her students to study it further over the years. She will be missed.

I was so saddened to hear about the passing of Mrs. Gauthier. She was a tough teacher, but she was amazing (even if I didn't think so at the time). Her classroom gave me some of my fondest childhood memories. Mrs. Gauthier still pops up in conversation from time to time because she had such a huge impact on my friends and I, one that has lasted 16 years, & undoubtedly for the rest of our lives. I hope her family can take comfort in the fact that she was such an awesome woman, & helped shape the lives of so many children. Thoughts & prayers are with her & her family at this difficult time.

On September 22nd I lost my very best girlfriend, Betty. We have been friends for over 60 years. I lived with her wonderful family from my senior year, until I got married. They made me part of their family and Betty always called me her other sister. I was with her when her husband, Bob, passed away. She was my maid of honor and Betty and Bob were my oldest son, Rick's godparents. My children knew them as Aunt Betty and Uncle Bob. I am so glad that in April, Frank, myself and Betty went on a Viking River Cruise, for our 75th birthdays, may I add at Betty's suggestion. Isn't it ironic that Betty passed on Bob's birthday. What am I going to do without my "Betts"? I will miss you so much. Frank and I send our deepest sympathy to Betty's family. You all are in our prayers.

So sorry to hear of the loss of such a wonderful person. I had the pleasure of having Mrs. Gauthier for both 5th and sixth grade. She helped instill in me my lifelong love of reading, as I recall how she always cried at the ending of a story read aloud. "A sign of a good book," she said. And of course how she helped console me when I was homesick on our 6th grade trip to Nature's Classroom. She was a wonderful, dedicated teacher!! I am so honored to have known her. She will be greatly missed!!

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Betty's sudden death.  She always had a smile on her face and a cheery story to tell.  We spent many nights having dinner together in Wellfleet and Provincetown and were in the midst of planning another.  I am sure she is happy to be back with her Bob. Dearest Aunt Betty, So many of our childhood memories are long since forgotten once our lives crest adulthood. Those that are remembered are usually done so, because of the impact that they had on our lives. Those memories become our most precious possessions! Although this will be my last hand written note to you, my heart will forever continue to send forth letters of love and gratitude for the honor of the time I spent with you, Uncle Bob and Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman. I've never forgotten my childhood memories, “my precious possessions” of time picking string beans in your garden, eating cookies at Mrs. Hoffman's little round kitchen table or riding in the back of Mr. Hoffman's pick-up truck. Betty, we will always remember you! Your love for friends, family,and faith, your caring for those in need, your adventure seeking, your travel stories you have shared with the Bible Study ladies, your talents especially teaching us how to fix our knitting mistakes, your love of a good book and sharing it with us. I feel this is so unreal as I spoke with you just last week. You had me in stitches after you read a passage from the book you just finished. May you and Bob be together forever in the Lord's presence.

Betty has lived next to us since, well, before our house was even built. We would see her for a few times through the fall and winter but she would come to the Cape for the whole summer.  We would always say “Betty's  down , Summer is officially here!"  We would go to dinner with her once a week or so.  She called if she needed help with something.  She was very generous.  As a Disney Vacation Club member she let us stay at her villas a couple of times.  She even went on our first Disney Cruise with us.  Anytime she would book a trip or buy something she would say "Bob would want me to!" 
We will miss her. But we will remember her always and when we decide to buy something or book a trip we will remember that Betty wanted us to.

Aunt Betty will be very missed she was such a sweet giving person so gentle and loving.
