Florence Burke

Florence Burke, 90, wife of the late Robert L. Burke Sr., died in Manchester on July 2, 2012. She was born in Springfield, MA on August 24, 1921 and resided in East Hartford for over 60 years. Besides being active in the East Hartford Democratic Women’s Club, she belonged to East Hartford Emblem Club #341 and the Connecticut State Emblem Club, serving as President at the local and state levels. She worked at Top Notch Foods prior to her retirement. At Manchester Manor, she participated in many activities; she never missed a Bingo game if she could help it and she discovered oil painting at age 89. She leaves her sons Robert Burke and his wife Kathleen of Columbia and John Burke and his wife Janet of Pottstown, PA and her daughters Patricia Burke of Rockfall and Carol Burke Shedrick of Montreal, Quebec Canada. She also leaves eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of Manchester Manor and Masonicare Hospice for all the care and compassion they provided her during her stay there. Friends and family are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, July 6th from 11am-1pm at the Newkirk and Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave. East Hartford, with a funeral service to follow at 1pm at the funeral home.
