George R. Gauthier, 85, beloved husband of the late Georgianna (Preston) Gauthier, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, with his family by his side. He was born September 26, 1928 in New Bedford, MA, growing up in Hartford he eventually settled in East Hartford where he resided for many years.
He held many jobs including working for the railroad and as a baker. He was employed by Automatic Comfort for 35 years as an oil delivery driver. His charm and character made him a natural choice for their print ad campaign in the early 1970’s. George served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who cherished time spent with his family. Always a jokester, he had a smile and a story for everyone he met. He was an accomplished bowler, having won many tournaments and trophies. He had many hobbies including boating, camping and archery. He was a longstanding member of the East Windsor Sportsman’s Club. He loved animals and was known to bring home many stray cats. He was an enthusiastic collector of cars having enjoyed many hours restoring them.
George is survived by his daughters Eleanor Miranda and Valerie Swanson, his granddaughter Jayne Perzan and her husband Scott all of Plainville. He also leaves close and beloved friends that he considered family, his former son-in-law, Dale Swanson of East Hartford, and Elizabeth and Michael Piccarello of Waterford. In addition to his wife Georgianna of 57 years, he was predeceased by his son in-law Orlando Miranda.

Calling hours will be on Saturday, December 21st, from 10 to 11a.m. at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford. A Funeral Service will follow at 11a.m at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford.
