Ida B. Schmidt

Ida B. Schmidt, 99, formerly a longtime East Hartford resident, passed away June 10, 2012 in Albuquerque, NM where she lived with her son Robert and daughter-in-law Joan. Ida was born in East Hartford, the daughter of the late Bernard F. and Amelia (Ljung) Hanson. She lived in East Hartford most of her life and resided at The Arbors at Westfield, MA for several years. Ida loved her family and enjoyed any time they spent together. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed card games, gardening, crocheting, family picnics, cooking Sunday dinners for her family, traveling and visiting new places. She was the consummate homemaker, wonderful cook and baked the best pies that you would ever eat! She loved her dog “Fluffy”, right to the end. She is survived by her son Robert and his wife Joan, her daughter-in-law Judy Schmidt, and grandchildren Carrie Schmidt, Christopher Schmidt, Janyne Lagarda, Jeffrey Schmidt and wife Heather and Gregory Schmidt and wife Jennifer. Ida adored her ten great-grandchildren: Robert and Amanda Metler, Jennifer Edmundson, Josh, Cameron, and Brandon Schmidt, Hannah Tatum, and Krysten, Katey and Scott Schmidt. She had great pride in being the great-great grandmother of eight: Emily, Joey, Joani and Allen Edmundson, Dominick Metler, and Kyler, Nathan and Sasha Livingston. Ida was predeceased by her husband Paul Schmidt Sr., her son Paul Schmidt Jr., and four sisters; Helen Fenton, Ella Brooker, Anna Phelon and Ruth Phelon. Ida also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. Ida will be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Her memorial service will be held on Saturday June 30th at 11AM at the Benjamin J. Callahan Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford. Inurnment will follow in Hillside Cemetery in East Hartford.
