Janet Anne Backmann, beloved wife of Henry August Backmann for fifty-seven years, died October 27th in South Windsor, CT. Born in 1934 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of Eric R. and Mary G. Peterson. A proud graduate of the Columbia Presbyterian Nursing School in New York, Janet moved to Glastonbury, Connecticut in the late 1950’s to support her husband’s career first at BECON, Inc. and then when he founded HABCO Inc. In 1970. She raised two daughters, Erica (Backmann) Diamond and Kristin (Backmann) Muschett, who currently reside in Mansfield, CT and South Glastonbury, CT.
Janet was a devoted grandmother to her three granddaughters, Elisabeth, Mallory and Stephanie. She was a loyal friend and an enthusiastic member of “the Ya-Yas,” a group of close friends who knew each other for many years, and shared many close experiences together, including a birthday celebration close to the end of her life. She was a keen grammarian, enjoyed crossword puzzles, cross-stitching, and traveling to Bonita Springs, Florida in the winter and to Charleston Beach, Rhode Island in the summer. She had a lifelong love of entertaining and opening up her home to friends and family for parties and celebrations of all kinds.
In addition to her husband and two daughters, she leaves behind two sons-in -law, Stephen Diamond of Storrs, CT and Robert Muschett, of S. Glastonbury, CT as well as three step-grandchildren, two nieces, and three nephews.
