Joanne M Pitz

Joanne M. Pitz, 93, of East Hartford CT, passed on Wednesday April 20th 2022, with her daughter by her side. She was born February 18th 1929, in Hartford CT, the daughter of Charles Edgar and Elaine (DeMonte) Jencks.

She was raised in East Hartford, attended East Hartford High School and went on to earn her RN license at Middlesex Hospital’s nursing program. She worked there briefly before getting married in October 1954 to Robert and moving to Bolton were they made their home and had 2 children, moving to Manchester when the children were young. Joanne was a devoted wife and mother, staying home to raise her family.

Her biggest joy in life was taking care of her family. She took care of her grandmother Ruth, until Ruth’s passing. When her daughter was diagnosed with MS, Joanne became her main caregiver for 35 years and when her granddaughter, Ashley was born she took care of her until she was school age. Joanne loved her animals and as she got older and her husband passed away they became her constant companions. First she had Sassy and when Sassy passed she got Lola.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, Robert, the love of her life and her best friend, her daughter Debora (James), her older brother Charlie, and her sister-in-law Janet. Joanne is survived by her daughter, Catherine (Robert), her granddaughter Ashley (Dontae), her grandson Matthew, and her great granddaughters Layla and Briella for whom she would light up when they came over. She is also survived by her brother Arthur (Linda), her sister-in-law Patricia, many nieces and nephews and her two special “girls” Georgia and LuAnn.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Sherri “Auntie” for the wonderful care that she gave to Joanne the past few years. She loved spending time with her and her grandson and looked forward to her driving her to her hair appointments. They would also like to thank her neighbor, Ann, for all the conversations they had over the years, especially in her later years, which meant so much to her.

Calling Hours for Joanne will be held Monday, May 2, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave, East Hartford, Connecticut 06108. A Life Well Celebrated Service will occur Monday, May 2, 2022 at 12:00 PM, 318 Burnside Ave, East Hartford, Connecticut 06108. A Committal Service will occur Monday, May 2, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Silver Lane Cemetery, 1280 Silver Lane, East Hartford, CT.
