

He was born August 17, 1931, in Leicester, Massachusetts, the son of the late William and Gladys (Stott) Gilbert of Newington, CT. He was enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Corporal E-4 during the Korean War.
He worked for the Parks Department of West Hartford where he retired from after 25 years of service.
He loved being outdoors in the country and also spending quality time with his wife and family over the years by the ocean. Leonard was preceded in death by his wife; Elaine R. (Landry) Gilbert.
He is survived by his son; William and Dawn Gilbert of Chaplin, CT and daughter; Kathleen and Charles Sylvester of Andover. Grandchildren; Angela Gilbert and Jordan Meyers, Sharon Gilbert and Greg Boucher, Nikole Sylvester and Matt Sharland. Great Grandson; Jacob Boucher. In lieu of flowers donations in Leonard’s memory may be made either; Chaplin Senior Center, 132 Chaplin St. Chaplin, CT 06235 or Day Kimball Healthcare (Hospice & Palliative Care of Northeastern CT), 32 South Main St., Putnam, CT 06260. Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue East Hartford is entrusted with his arrangements
