Radu George Sapatoru, 61, of Glastonbury, husband of Tomita Sapatoru, passed away unexpectedly on April 10th. Radu passed at home, with his loving wife by his side, after a brief illness from Coronavirus. He was born on May 24th, 1959 in Roman, Romania, to the late Silvia and Mircea Sapatoru. He previously resided in Cluj Napoca, Romania and Toronto, Canada before finally settling in Glastonbury, CT.
He attended Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca, Romania and graduated as a Doctor of General Medicine.
He was a faithful parishioner of Holy Transfiguration Romanian Church as well as active member in the Columbia Lodge No.25 of the FreeMasons, where he served as Worshipful Master in 2015.
He married Tomita Morariu in 1988 and they made their first home in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Afterwards, they moved across the world to build the life they wanted for their family. Radu, his wife, and their two small children left Romania and settled in Toronto, Canada in April, 1995.
In Romania, Radu was an accomplished and generous doctor. He carried the passion of caring for others here by then pursuing a career in nursing in order to provide for his family. After graduating from Toronto’s George Brown College with a degree in Practical Nursing, he got a job in Glastonbury, CT. He moved his family in October 2000 and has lived here ever since.
Radu was a devoted husband and father who cherished time spent with his family. In addition to raising their children, he maintained his career as a nurse and spent his final days helping those who were affected by the Coronavirus.
A light hearted man, he had a loving and gentle nature with a great sense of humor. He was an animal lover, enjoyed gardening, traveling, spending time at the beach but most of all he enjoyed the time spent with his family.
In addition to his wife, Radu is survived and will be dearly missed by his sons Mihnea and Calin and his fiancée, Samantha, his sister, Anca Maria Sapatoru and her two children, Monica and Daniel, and his cousins, Dan Tansanu and Codruta Stefanescu, her husband Noru and their son, Theodor.
