

Richard A DePietro, 96, beloved husband of Sally Ann (Rataic) DePietro, departed this world September 23rd, 2021 at Hartford Hospital. After being born in Bloomfield CT. on June 10th, 1925 to the late Nicholas & Emma (Marinaccio) DePietro, he and his family moved to East Hartford in 1927, establishing the DePietro florist and where he lived for the rest of his life.
He went to local schools and graduated from East Hartford High in 1942, and upon graduating immediately enlisted in the USAAF to serve his country in WW2 as a radio operator on B25s in the Pacific arena. After the war he obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut. A motivated and passionate individual, he worked his way up in his field culminating in becoming President and owner of Atlas Aero, a manufacturer of Aerospace cables and connectors, before retiring in the 90’s. Richard was widely known throughout the community for his green thumb and dedication to his faith. He was an active communicant of the St. Rose parish, and generously donated to building St. Rose School. Besides his parents and siblings, he was also predeceased by his stepson, Thomas DePietro of Middlefield CT.
He leaves behind his wife of 23 years, Sally Ann (Rataic) DePietro, as well as three stepsons Nicholas, Richard and Joseph DePietro, all of East Hartford. He is also survived by four granddaughters and many nieces and nephews. He was especially close to his stepson Richard, as well as his nephew, J. David DePietro of Willington CT. He will be dearly missed for his intellect, his humor, and his compassion, to all. Calling hours for Richard will be held Tuesday, September 28, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home 318 Burnside Ave. East Hartford, CT. 06108. Funeral procession will form at Newkirk and Whitney Wednesday morning from 9:00am to 9:30am before leaving for a Mass of Christian burial on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Saint Rose Church 33 Church St. East Hartford, CT. 06108. Followed by Committal services at the family plot in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery Bloomfield, CT.
