Shirley J. Roppo

Shirley J. Roppo, 70, of East Hartford, passed away on May 25, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Nicholas J. Roppo Jr. Shirley was born in East Liverpool, Ohio on December 4, 1944, a daughter of the late Herbert Berbig and Mary E. Ellis. She graduated in 1963 from Aliquippa High School. She was an employee of Travelers Insurance Co. until retirement.

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Shirley adored her family and cherished time spent together.

Shirley will be dearly missed by her children; son Nicholas J. Roppo III., of East Hartford, son Dennis Roppo with whom she lived and was her caregiver, also of East Hartford, daughter Michele Watson and her husband Robert Jr., of Enfield, grandchildren Robert III, Thomas and Nicholas Watson, brother William Foertsch of Clinton, PA, sister Mary Lois Nuggent and her husband Jack of AZ, brothers-in-law Ronald and Anthony Roppo and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for the wonderful care given to Shirley from her “Angel” Saunda Chambers and the St. Francis ICU team.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 28th from 5-8pm at the Newkirk and Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, CT 06108. Funeral services will begin at 10:30am on Friday, May 29, followed by a Prayer Service at 11am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford.
