Susan Elaine Bailey, 77, passed away peacefully in her home in Unionville on Friday, November 28, 2025. Born on November 25, 1948, in Peabody, MA, she was the daughter of the late Francis Milo and Luba (Niciewsky) Bailey. She was a graduate of Glastonbury High School, class of 1966 and continued her education at the University of Hartford. Sue lived most of her life in Higganum, where she became a beloved member of the community.
Before retiring, Sue served as the Assistant Town Clerk for the town of Haddam, a position she held with dedication and pride. Throughout her life, Sue was passionate about antiquing and had a keen interest in politics. She was a strong advocate for the causes and candidates she believed in, often actively campaigning and supporting those she voted for. Up until she became ill, Sue was an avid reader and had an extensive library. Sue also enjoyed cooking family recipes. Among them was a cookbook she and her sister compiled for the family, which was in honor of their grandmother’s 85th birthday. Because she enjoyed writing, she eloquently wrote the deduction page.
Sue is survived by her devoted sister, Karen E. Villar and her husband Joseph L. Villar Jr.; her adored nephews, Joseph L. Villar III and his wife Carrie, along with their children Ashley Stachura and her husband Matt, and Joseph L. Villar IV and his wife Sarah; and her other nephew, David A. Villar and his daughter, Tanesha. She also leaves behind her great-niece and great-nephew, Emily and Evan St. Armand Villar. Along with her parents, Sue is predeceased by her grandparents Arthur and Agatha Niciewsky of Danvers, MA and Clarence L. and Dorothy R. (Merrifield) Bailey of Peabody, MA.
Funeral services and burial for Sue will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sue’s name to American Brain Foundation, 201 Chicago Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55415. The Glastonbury Funeral Home, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford, CT has been entrusted with the care of the local arrangements.
