quietly in her sleep in the early hours of St. Patrick’s Day...
It’s been said that we live our life in the “dash!”
My mom filled her dash with a great life- full of good times, good people and
many happy memories. She will be remembered for being a vivacious and
charming woman who was always looking for the best in life.
Folks have described her as gracious, kind, funny, extraordinarily generous and
crazy. Her quick and clever wit made her a fun person to be around.
Anne Nelson was born in St. Petersburg, Florida, while her dad was employed as
a mason on the famous Webb City Department store. From those warm climes,
she migrated north to Ironwood, Michigan, in the western tip of the U.P. This
made her both a Gator and a Yooper. In the end, she pined for the Florida
sunshine and spent many happy years there.
Mom was a talented and respected artist in a wide range of media. She applied
her painting skills in oils, acrylics and watercolors. In her career she covered
landscapes, still lifes, portraits, seascapes, abstracts and more. She was once
invited to be a resident artist on the prestigious traveling Art Train.
After graduating from Ferris Institute, she started her career as a teacher at
Eaton Rapids High School, teaching typing and stenography. She then worked
for many years teaching records management in the business department at
Lansing Community College, and was recognized in the “Who’s Who of Women
in Education.”
Mom loved being with her good friends and was great at making new friends
wherever she went. She enjoyed dressing elegantly, even if to go out for
breakfast. People always commented on her beauty and style.
Mom struggled her last year, being suddenly bedridden and unable to be with
friends or enjoy her quality of life. I know that the mass isolation that we all just
experienced was very hard on her. I hope you will join us in our relief that she
has finally found peace. And I know I speak for her when I say to all her family
members and friends, “I love you.”
Anne leaves behind sons Scott and Patrick; daughter Dana; sister Sandra Derby;
Grandchildren Bradley, Kathryn, Donovan and Kerrigan. She is preceded by her
parents, Paul and Marjorie Nelson.
