

Hotchkiss served as an English teacher in the Lansing School District for 30 years. He taught courses at Lansing Community College, Dwight Rich Junior High, Academic Interest Center, and Sexton High School. He retired in 1995.
He was born in Lansing, Michigan on January 8, 1939, to Lyle and Dorothy Hotchkiss. He is a 1957 graduate of Resurrection High School, where he played football and basketball for legendary coach Paul Cook and participated in several school musicals. He also worked for the family business, Hotchkiss Vending and Hotchkiss Concessions. Following high school graduation, Hotchkiss served in the United States Air Force for four years.
He graduated with a bachelor’s (1964) and master’s + degree (1967) in English from Michigan State University.
He married his wife Agnes Jeanne (Simone) Hotchkiss of Mason in 1964, and they celebrated their 50th anniversary this past August.
Devoted sports and literary fan, Hotchkiss wrote and compiled a series of short stories about growing up in Lansing. Writing was his passion. He took pleasure reading his written stories to his literary group the EL writers. He enjoyed keeping up with the activities of his children and watching sports and current events. He attended St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in East Lansing.
Arthur will be remembered and loved forever by his wife Agnes, his brother David Hotchkiss (Chris), his children Greg (Stacey Brann-Hotchkiss), Simone (Drew Vozzolo), and youngest son Garrett. He loved his two granddaughters Gianna and Lilly. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law Joseph Simone, Paul DeRose, and Ralph Simone (Lorraine).
Visitation will be held at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Avenue, East Lansing, MI, on February 8, 2015 from 1-4pm.
