She would be married to Alfredo Franco in 1949. Together, they would start their family of six children with Gloria Capetillo (Jesse), Fred, Joe, Sylvana Hernandez (Al), Monica Paparella (Joe) and Michael (Pam).
She went to be with her Lord on June 30, 2023.
Her children were always her anchor in life and her love for them had no bounds. Along with her six, there would eventually be 17 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren.
Mom’s moral compass was unwavering. Along with unconditional love came firm discipline when needed as her line between right and wrong could never be blurred.
Mom retired in 1993 from Michigan State University where she worked as head custodian on second shift for over 25 years. She was loved and respected by coworkers, the many students that worked for her as well as administration and staff. Aurora always displayed a strong work ethic. Work was the yardstick by which an individual was measured and she was always one to take great pride in her work. Upon arriving home from work in the morning she always made sure the kids had breakfast before she left the house for the day. When the kids got home from school dinner was prepared for them before she would leave for the next day’s work. To say that Mom had a lot on her plate would be a gross understatement.
In retirement, she took it upon herself to be a full-time grandmother and baby sitter to dozens of grandchildren and great grandchildren. It seemed there was never a limit to the love she have to give. Mom’s life was truly dedicated and committed to the lives of everyone else around her. There was no thought of “me” or “what would I like to do today.” Her thoughts were always on the lives and wellbeing of others.
As we celebrate her life, we also recognize that she will be truly missed by all who knew her.
Visitation at Gorsline Runciman East Chapel, 1730 E. Grand River, East Lansing, Saturday, July 8 from 8:30 a.m. until service at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Lansing.
