Neal and Lois were wonderful neighbors.  The "replica" garage/carriage house across the street was designed by Neal and built by Neal and my husband Dick McQueen.  A demonstration of his building skills and his willingness to help.
Have missed them both since moving away.

We purchased the lot recently behind Neal's house.  We did not know him long but did get to know him.  He was a man that made this  world a whole lot better for being in it.

I was saddened to see that Neal had passed away.  When I worked at Delhi Township, he frequently stopped into the office for business and I always enjoyed our visits.  He was always a joy to spend time with, and was always a positive influence on my day.  RIP Neal...you will be missed.

So sorry to learn of Lt. Col. Bykerk's passing.  He was such a sweet, kind, and gently man.  He always had kind words for me at work.  He will be missed.  May God comfort all of the family and friends during this difficult time.  Unfortunately, I won't be able to make his funeral as I have a work commitment in Grand Rapids tomorrow.

As a classmate of Lori and Linda, I, and other teenage boys, found Mr. Bykerk an intimidating force to anyone interested in his beautiful daughters.  Years later, when I had teenage daughters of my own, I failed miserably in my efforts to duplicate that affect.  My father served on the board at Lansing Christian with Mr. Bykerk and had the utmost respect for him.  Condolences to Lori, Linda, and all the family.  God Bless you all!

I always had the highest respect for Neal, for his honesty and integrity.  When he attended Fire Marshal Division retreats he and I would take long walks after dinner and talk about different subjects and issues, not just about the MSP.  I was a sergeant at the time and thought it was great that a Lt. Col. would take the time to take an interest in my views and opinions.

Your Mom and Dad were such special people to so many at RTC and everyone that knew them or experienced their love and caring ways. My condolences to you for your loss of such a fine man as Neal.  Richard thought the world of him and so appreciated working with him on the Lansing Christian School board.  Since Richard crossed that line of moving from this world into God's kingdom only 8 short months ago, it will be a great reunion - with both Neal and Lois. We were deeply saddened to hear of Neal's passing. I worked closely with him for several years and always appreciated his highly principled and ethical approach to departmental issues. Due to prior family commitments, we will be unable to attend the memorial service.

Neal was one of my dearest friends for decades.  I admired him for his strength, wisdom, humor, strong Christian faith, and courage to stand up for what was right.  I'll miss him dearly, but know that we will see each other again in heaven.

Neal was one of my first Senior officers at Grand Haven.  He was a great partner and had a unique style.  One of my best memories of him occurred on a cold winter night in 1962.  Late on the afternoon shift we were given an assignment to check on a starving horse near Holton.  On the way to check on the horse I observed a car going the other way with a headlight out.  I pulled to the shoulder to turn around.  Before I had four wheels on the shoulder Neal, as only he could do, corrected my course.  He stated, "We can't bother with little trouble when we have big trouble.  We have a hungry  horse."  We continued on.  I reminded him of this several times over the years and we always had a good laugh.  He was a good man and I will miss him.
