In January, 2013 I had my first appointment with Dr Roman. It was a day that has and will forever change the course of my life.  I will keep this brief, however I could talk for days about the ways Dr Roman saved my life. My husband of less than a year at that time said to me, “get help or I am leaving you!” That tough but much needed love led me to Dr Roman and because of her I am still married, I am a mother, and I am healthy.  Almost 13 years of meeting with Dr Roman monthly. She was my Dr, my confidant, my secret keeper, and whether she felt the same over the years it began to feel like a genuine friendship.  She watched and helped me grow from a young twenty something to a Mother. She helped me manage many life changes, job changes, moves, and motherhood. I recently had a traumatic incident with my 5 year old, thankfully he survived. It has left me with pain that I can feel run down my arms and legs. She was my first text when things calmed down. She could have just listened, she could have just stayed quiet while I beat myself up and she could have used “doctor language” to reassure me he was alive and that was all that mattered. She could have said anything, but she said, “Damn, mama you acted well.” It wasn’t much, and obviously on our follow up call there was so much more discussed, but it didn’t feel like a Dr, it didn’t feel like a distant person who sends a script every month. It felt like a friend. Dr Roman, you saved my life…for that I say “damn mama you acted well!”  ❤️

Arlene is my first cousin on my mom’s side- we share the same birthday , June 22.  Arlene loved family, she loved New Mexico and she loved the land where her Mom, Anavi was born and raised. She was always so smart-  no surprise that she became a doctor.  She loved her profession and loved working with people and helping them. She was always a good sounding board for those that knew and loved her. Her passing has hit hard, such a shock to me. She leaves a hole in the hearts of those who loved her. May she rest in peace.

I had the priviledge and honor to be close to Arlene lately. She was a friend, a dear friend, a special friend. We shared secrets. We shared much. I spent her last birthday with her , with were only two, enjoying a cake sent by her sister Debbie and another one sent by one of her friends Kane B. I was there when the sickness that finally took her first hit. She said I would die Issaga if you were not here. I felt sad when she said that. But took it casually . I was about to come back to Africa and had to put off my trip to take care of her then, to look after her. I even considered staying longer, but I could not : my visa was expiring, I could not overstay. I left when she felt much better, on october 3, after dropping her off at the office. We hugged. We wished good things to one another. We said goodbye. We were real friends. 
She loved her family. She loved Zoe, so much (…). She loved her Mom, she loved her father (…), she loved her sister Debbie, with whom she had a real sister-to-sister relationship with ups and downs, but she defenitely loved her. I remembrer how she was happy on Debbie’s birthday.
She would cry sometimes when she recalled Chris Baker, her step-son. She would sometimes dream about him. She was happy when he got his daughter, Gaia. She also loved her ex-husband, Jack. She was connected to Pocket. She loved Juno. 
She is the best woman I ever met. I am pretty sure I will never again have a friend like you Arlene. 
You said I was your special friend dear Arlene. Yes you are my special friend. You’re the best. You liked quiet, you liked to rest. Rest in peace dear friend, rest in peace Queen, rest in JOY, rest in HAPPINESS ❤️. 
My condolences to all her family, from Puerto Rico, New Mexico, Florida, to East Lansing. 
I am still grieving but happy that she is resting, still among us as a butterfly 🦋. Arlene for life !

PS: I believe she would be happy to have, in her memory, a foundation dealing with depression and child abuse.

My condolences to Dr. Roman's family and friends and to all her patients that she helped.  I especially thank God for Dr. Roman's care of me  over the years that I saw her in her practice.  I am blessed  by the kindness  she gave toward me.  May your memories of her be a blessing to you.

As my neighbor for 20 years she was engaging and a great neighbor. Our dogs would play almost  daily.  My wife and I miss her already. We would often chat at our mailboxes or over the fence.  We watched out for each other.  She is not forgotten.

I’ll miss you for ever. You’re the best thing that ever happened to me. We never got to meet for real but you were always there for me. You were such a strong and hardworking woman

Zoe, we are so so sorry to hear of the death of your loving mother. We hope you are surrounded by family & friends as you all share the memories of Arlene & all the joy she brought to you. Be well, Zoe, and lean on those around you as you need.

December 8, 2025 will be forever the saddest day of our lives. Our Leeny is gone from us forever.  We have seen her grow from  little  baby to a magnificent person, a great medical doctor, and a wonderful mother.  We have traveled a long journey together..and now she has gone from our side.  God bless you, Leeny. You will be in our minds and hearts forever, Love you always.  Mom and Dad

Sadness turns to gladness
Arlene loved butterflies.  I think it was because of the metamorphosis of a caterpillar a creature that crawls on the ground that suddenly gets the impulse to build a cocoon and give birth to a butterfly which is a creature that flies in the air.  From one form of being to the next something is lost and something is gained.  I believe Arlene suffered in this life to give birth to the next one and I know the gain is great and she has happily gone her way.   In this thought my sadness for myself turns to gladness for her.  I can see her in my minds eye flying in the sun with joy and peace to her next adventure.  She is smiling and there are no more tears.  May we all be so blessed.

Zoe she loved you so much

Dr Roman was my physician for over 30 years. She would share ther knowledge of her degrees with me in her desire to help  me in any way she could. She continued in her hourly sessions of medication review and therapy even though the industry practice separated the two. She was devoted to her patients and loving. She will be sorely missed.
