

Eleanor Sherman, Alderman, Minnich, Porter passed away peacefully January 11, 2014 at Burcham Hills, an hour shy of her 92nd birthday. She was born on January 12, 1922, the daughter of Dr. Stanton Sherman and Lillian Sherman, in Carroll, Iowa.
A long time resident of East Lansing and Okemos, she was a member of the PEO sisterhood and a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and a supporter of all things Michigan State and University of Iowa. “Ellie” got to travel the world with husband, Dale, learned to co-pilot private planes, and rode an elephant at age 70. She was especially proud of the achievements of her children and grandchildren.
Her first husband, Bruce Alderman, and second husband, Art Minnich, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband Dale Porter; daughters, Beth Von Till (Steve) and Susan Benedix (Ben); grandchildren, Steve, Jr., (Niela), Katie, Rob, Abby (Bob), Matt (Courtney); and great grandchildren, Emma, Freya, their mother, Kristin, Amanda, Thomas, John, Alec, and Daniel.
A Memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, January 18, 2014 the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River Avenue, East Lansing, MI with the Rev. Drew Filkins officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 2-3:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children’s garden at MSU, 1066 Bogue Street, East Lansing, MI 48824 in honor of her great-grandchildren.
The family is grateful for the loving care provided by Burcham Hills, especially the staff on the 4th floor.
