Emil was born September 21, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan to Virgil and Emily Van Steel, passed away May 11, 2014 at the age of 83. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Emil was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Valerie; sister, Betty; brother, Virgil and former wife, Shirley. He is survived by his daughter, Janine (Rex) Weldon; sons, Gregory, Kurt (Theresa), Eric (Lauren) and Jeffrey Van Steel; grandchildren, Chelsea, Carter, Meghan, Clare, and James Van Steel, Amy and Alex Weldon. Emil is also survived by his sister, Mable Fenwick.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 15, at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 3815 S. Cedar Street, Lansing with the Rev. George Daisy, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior at the church. The Rite of Committal will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, in Lansing.
