

Dr. Ernesto Bautista Quiachon, MD, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 in Lansing, Michigan. Born September 13, 1941 in the Philippines in Davao City to Tirso and Teofila (Bautista) Quiachon.
Dr. Ernie moved to the United States to complete his medical residency, first living in Akron, Ohio before moving to East Lansing, Michigan. It was at Michigan State University in East Lansing that he met his future wife of over 50 years, Dr. Rosa Somera, Ph.D., Together, they raised their two children in Lansing while Ernesto worked as a pathologist at Ingham Medical Center, St. Lawrence Hospital, Sparrow Hospital, and McLaren Hospital.
Dr. Ernie will be remembered for his sense of humor, his work, and his passion for taking care of his family. When he semi-retired, he would say it’s because he only works 40 hrs a week. Dr. Ernie fully retired on January 1st, 2021.
Dr. Ernie was a devoted husband, and proud father and grandfather whose passion and joy in life was his family. When he felt comfortable that his family was taken care of, he finally purchased his first brand new car after turning 70 yrs of age.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Anne Quiachon; and siblings Rodolfo B Quiachon, Jorge B Quiachon, Orlando B Quiachon, Annabella B Quiachon, Lolita Q Flores, and Pacita Q Derecho.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Rosa Quiachon; his son, Vincent Louis (Mindy Smart) Quiachon; his grandchildren, Alexander, Zachary, and Madison Quiachon; and his sisters Zenaida Q Jumento, Myrna Q Velasco and Maria Nimfa Q Patindol.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 5, 2021 from 4pm until 7pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Chapel, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., in East Lansing. Masks will be required and social distancing will be practiced.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at 10am at St. Mary Cathedral, 219 Seymour Ave. in Lansing. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Lansing.
