

George Ward, of Haslett passed away at the age of 91 on January 29, 2014 at Ingham County Medical Care Facility in Okemos. George was born in Indianapolis, IN and he honorably served in the USMC in the Pacific during WWII. He is survived by his loving companion Jeannine Mitchell and her family, daughters Barb Ward-Austin (Don Austin) & Nancy (Jeff) Heeman, one granddaughter Maren (Chris) Stewart and their daughter Peyton Stewart, and nieces Andrea Meadows and Jan Tucholski and their families. A Memorial service will be held Monday, February 3 at 4:00 p.m. at Gorsline Runciman East Lansing Chapel, with visitation from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Internment at Fort Custer Cemetery will be held later this year.
George retired from Meadowbrook Insurance agency at the age of 70. He then started his own business doing safety inspections throughout Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. George was actively involved in politics throughout his life, running for City Council and then for the State Legislature while living in Trenton, MI. He volunteered throughout his life: Junior Achievement, School Crossing Guard in East Lansing, Lifeline and drove the Courtesy Cart at Ingham Regional Medical Center. He and Jeannine volunteered together at the Festival of Trees, East Lansing Folk Festival, the Greater Lansing Food Bank and Garden Project, assisted in building the playground at Lake Lansing Park and attending and helping at the Lake Lansing Band Shell concerts during the summer. George loved animals, especially walking his cat Callie. He also enjoyed gardening, golf, and traveling.
George was a loving and supportive partner to Jeannine, and was a kind, thoughtful, generous Father, Grampa and Uncle.
We also thank all the wonderful staff at Ingham County Medical Care Facility, who provided excellent care for him.
