

Gerald David Bell, 79, of East Lansing died Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing. He was born December 19, 1937 in Lansing to Floyd and Sarah (Kinney) Bell. He graduated from Holt High School in 1956, where he played baseball and later played in Germany. He married Joan Martenies in 1985 in Lansing. He served in the US Army from 1957 – 1959, stationed in Germany and the Reserves until 1964. He worked as an inspector for General Motors for 28 years until his retirement in 1992.
He loved fishing, hunting, bowling, casinos, was a Spartan fan and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children: Kathryn (Wayne) Dickens, Gerald Bell and Donna Bell, Cindy (Paul) Proffit, Sue Winsett, Gina (Rick) Sloan; grandchildren: David (Allie) Bell, Shawn Bell, Nicholas Winsett, Rikki (Garrick) Aven, Brad Sloan, Jennifer Sloan, Stephanie (Jeremy) Abbott; great-grandchildren: Chloe Jackson, Sophia Abbott, Jasmine Winsett, Blake Aven; sister LuAnn B. Kent and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Joan; siblings: Robert W. Bell, Donald A. Bell, Floyd R. Bell and Marilyn Bush.
