Cathy and I just learned of Joanne’s passing. Our hearts go out to Jake Sr, Jake Jr and their entire family. We were fortunate to get to know Joanne when Jake and Jr. took over the coaching reins for baseball at Lansing Catholic where our son, Danny, played.  Sr. & Jr. elevated the quality of play. Joanne, thru her beauty, elegance and loyalty, elevated the atmosphere in the stands, even when weather dictated being wrapped in a sleeping bag. Those were the best of times.
She will rest in peace.

What a joyful presence at the Southside Community Kitchen. So many guests loved her so much. As a volunteer I can honestly say I looked forward to getting calls to sign myself up to work. Joanne was always cheerful. I knew I was free to say no, if I couldn't help on a specific date, but I also knew I would be told what a wonderful person I was when I confirmed a date.  I will miss Joanne greatly. Who else is there to talk MSU sports with?

Joanne is love and loved - in spirit, in person, and in action; giving and a gift; always to be remembered and now with her Lord. Bless you, Joanne, and thank God and you for you!

At the church, the line was so long to sign the book, that Lonnie and I were unable to sign it.  So I am definitely writing in here.  I love Aunt Jo Jo so much.  She has always been in my life.  Even though we didn't live in the same part of the state, we saw so much of each other as I was growing up.  Yes, I agree with your pastor and Kelly Jo:  her face glowed.  It radiated Jesus always.  I remember one Christmas when she was still single, she had the stomach flu.  She had been up all night long vomiting.  She looked horrible.  Her face was white.  When we arrived, she was in her pajamas on the living room sofa (close to the bathroom).  She left the area because she didn't want to give the bug to us.  She felt so sick that she couldn't participate in the celebration.  Yet, she still had that peace and glow.  God doesn't abandon us during hard times or when we feel horrible.  Her whole life, Aunt Jo Jo deliberately spent a lot of time with her mother, listened to her, and became like her in godliness.  In my eyes, Grandma Moderow and Aunt Jo Jo are the perfect definition of godly women.  They lived it.  I don't recall ever hearing either one of them ever complain.  They loved God, were connected to Him, their church, their family, and other people.  They demonstrated the fruit of the spirit every time I saw them - and - I am guessing - every time I did not see them.    They talked about the Lord.  I am so blessed for having had them in my life. My Beloved Boss Family,
I was just made aware of the transition of Mrs. Boss. While I hurt badly for our loss on this side of Heaven, I know she is glowing with rays of light our Heavenly Father has bestowed upon her.
Mrs. Boss allowed me and a rag-tag group of guys to latch on to her and our basketball coach, Mr. Boss, a new teacher, beginning in the 7th grade at Lansing West Junior High School. Coach Boss would have us run sprints at the end of practice (in the locker room we called him “The Spit Snatcher” because after he ran you, you had no spit in your mouth), then load us up into his (I believe it was a 1968) burgundy Ford Galaxy, take us to their small apartment on Ottawa Street.  Mrs. Boss would feed us while Coach would let us watch a sport event on TV. I remember many times admiring how as a young couple, they treated each other with love and respect. I used that as a model for my future relationships, and never forgot how a great marriage should work.
Mrs. Boss was the first one to dub me “JimBo” as a play on my full name. The guys laughed and loved it, so it has stuck with me through my life. As I progressed through grammar school, I was Blessed to reunite with Coach Boss at Harry Hill High School. Mrs. Boss would often ask Coach about my status and kept her touch with me through Coach.
While I love Coach Boss, the athletic lessons he taught were never more valuable than the life lessons he taught through the works he did with Mrs. Boss. The kindness, generosity, caring, selflessness and love will always be remembered and cherished.
I pray God’s comfort on the Family through cherished memories and the remembered wishes Mrs. Boss left for your continuance.

I was so saddened to hear of Joanne’s passing.  I did not know her really well but my husband, Larry, volunteered at the soup kitchen for many, many years. In addition to that, he did several woodworking projects for her.  I know that they enjoyed a wonderful friendship as am sure everyone did who knew her well. I worked with Joanne at the Southside Community Kitchen for about eight years. She was always kind, gracious, and welcoming to everyone who came through the doors - guests, volunteers, and new co-workers who really needed someone to show them the ropes.  My prayers are with her family and everyone who knew her through the kitchen. She will be greatly missed here but I am sure she was welcomed into heaven hearing "Well done, good and faithful servant."

Joanne Boss was one of the kindest persons I have ever known in my lifetime. She always was full wisdom wit and kind words for everyone. I knew her for about 15 years at Southside Community Kitchen. She made such an amazing impression on everyone she knew. What an amazing human being! She loved the lord with all her heart. I will dearly miss you! My heart is broken. Words cannot describe everyone's affection for you. My condolences to the family.

Every time I saw Mrs Boss she always greeted me with a pleasant smile and a hug. She was always cheerful and happy. It was always better day when I’d see her and Mr Boss together. It was pure happiness.  RIP Mrs Boss. It was a pleasure to know you

Through all the years we've known your family, back to the days at St. Matthew's and then OSL, Jo always had a smile for everyone, and a concern for their needs. She lived her faith by helping others. She was always so positive. 
I know you will miss her greatly. You will grieve much because you love much. Cherish all those loving memories, they are gifts she has left for you.

I so remember Jo leading a ladies Bible Study @ Our Savior; I havent see her in years but the picture is so much I remember Jo. We haven't been members for 20 yrs. @ OSL. Jo was a great Christian lady.

Dear Boss Family,        I am deeply saddened to learn of Joanne's passing. She has been a dear friend since we met in high school over 60 years ago.     Whenever we communicated it was like we just spoke yesterday even though months had often passed.   She always spoke proudly about her family and sent pictures of special events.  I greatly admire her volunteer work, My deepest condolences to each of you.

Jake and family,  Jerry and I are very sorry for your loss.  We have many memories of Jo from the days when we attended St. Matthew.  She was always so sweet and always had a smile on her face.  I attended Bible Studies she led and she was a great Christian influence for me.   Your family will be in our prayers.

I met Joanne when she ran the food pantry at my church Christ United Methodist in Lansing.   I'm sending love and prayers for you all!  She was such a beautiful and loving person.  She will be missed!

Jake and family- so so sorry to hear about the loss of your beautiful wife/mother.  I think of you guys often. I think of my teenage years playing summer baseball with you as my coach and her as our number one cheer leader. I talked to her often at the Holt Post Office when she would come in for a transaction. She was such a positive person- always giving encouragement. Life is too short and passed too quickly. The good die young. May God be with you and your family.

She was an amazing person.  I worked with her at Southside soup kitchen.  There is no one who compares to her.  She worked until the day she died.  Her job was to schedule us volunteers. When she called if she thought I was under the weather she would say are you ok.  God bless her.  The clients at Southside soup kitchen loved loved her .  They told her thier  triumphs and tribulations .  She knew all their family history.  She was a gem a gem I will miss.  She did  the same thing for me in my life.  May the angels take her to paradise.  Love you forever my friend.

Jake and family. I so enjoyed every moment I spent with Joanne. Whether at an Everett baseball game, hanging around with the families or especially working in Southside community kitchen.  I was so very grateful that she got me involved in that wonderful cause. She always greeted everyone with that warm smile. I also appreciated her involvement with my girls. My love and prayers are with you all. She will be missed. Larry, Michele, Jessica and Erin (Martin).

Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Joanne. Joanne was an absolute angel. Erik & I had the pleasure of working with her at the Southside kitchen. Joanne knew everyone’s name! It always amazed me how great her memory was. We just talked with her last week. She will be deeply missed. It will not be the same without her. Prayers for the family.
