Judy Smith passed away peacefully after a short bout with cancer. She passed on April 27th surrounded by her family. She was at peace and was ready for her time to come. She kept talking about seeing her husband Richard and just wanted to be with him again.
She had a heart like no other, and there was nothing she would not do for someone who needed help. Growing up she was a surrogate mom to many kids in our neighborhood and thought of them as her own, even into adulthood.
She was born in Detroit to Norman and Wilma Radzom, and had one sister Susan (Radzom) Caswell. We were blessed with an amazing uncle Gordon Caswell, and a beautiful cousin Aimee (Caswell) Toby (Whose son Zack my mom adored).
She received a teaching degree at MSU and spent over 30 years teaching pre-K children with development issues. It was while at MSU that she met and then married our amazing father Richard Smith who was her everything. She retired when her daughter became pregnant with twins and it was her delight and joy to care for those babies while mamma was at work.
Her recent years have been about family, friends, her beloved garden and of course the MSU Spartans. These last weeks having given us so much support from so many. Aunt Barb Watts (my dad's sister) Her husband Brian Watts, our Aunt Sue and Uncle Gordy, Gwen Young, Kim Peterson, Joe and Melinda Frydel. There are no words to express our gratitude.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Richard Smith, her father Norman Radzom, and her mother Wilma Radzom. She is survived by her daughter Shawn (Scott) Carpenter of Olivet, her grandchildren Benjamin and Claire Carpenter of Olivet, her son Matthew Smith of Lansing, her son Scott Smith of Florida and her sister Susan Caswell of Arizona.
