Lane Arthur McFarland, 78, of Haslett, MI went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 21, 2020. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; children Lon (Tara) McFarland, Lundi McFarland, Robert (Tammi) Smith and Jeri (Dale) Kelley; grandchildren Andra (Joseph) Hasler, Kamden and Kailor Dockens; Preston, Ethan and Griffin McFarland; Adrianna (Dwight) Rau, Sam, Gabe and Alyssa Smith; Jack and Drew Brummer; Harrison Kelley and Savanna Ball; great-grandchildren Dominic and Cecilia Hasler, and Blaine Rau; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Lane was son of Arthur and Berta McFarland of Lansing, and loving brother to Timothy (Patricia Lutza) McFarland and Janice (Dennis) Prescott.
Lane was born and raised in Lansing and graduated from Sexton High School in 1960. He retired from The Home Depot in 2006. Prior to that, Lane had worked at Estes Furniture for 17 years. A one-time state champion water-skier, he enjoyed spending the day on the lake. Other hobbies included customizing / detailing cars and boats, and model trains.
Lane was extremely kind and generous, and loved to spend time with his family and friends. An eternal optimist, he would always put the needs of other people above his own, and never had an ill word to say about anyone.
Lane loved to travel to Maui, Hawaii with Cheryl in the winter, and they were gracious hosts and tour guides to many family and friends there over the years.
A Memorial Service will be held for Lane at New Hope Church, 2170 E. Saginaw Hwy, East Lansing, MI on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 11:00 AM, with visitation one hour prior.
