Lucille Valeria Gustafson

Lucille graduated from Stambaugh High School in 1950 and Michigan State University in 1959 with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and Masters Degree in Teacher Education.

She married Robert E. Gustafson in 1957 in Iron River, MI and they had four daughters. Lucille became a beloved teacher in 1954, and taught grades K-5 in Birmingham, MI, Iron River, MI and in the East Lansing Public Schools, from where she retired in 1997.

Lucille volunteered at Sparrow Hospital, local elections, and was a member of the Board of Directors at Hannah Community Center. She attended St. Thomas Aquinas and enjoyed MSU sporting events, travelling across the country with her husband, attending her grandchildren’s events and spending time with her family at their cabin in the U.P.

Lucille was predeceased by her husband, parents, brothers Rudolph (Orvilla) Mackson and Chester (Marilynn) Mackson and sister Jane (Charles) Stuk. She is survived by her daughters: Kathryn (Gary Dunn) Morgan, Marilynn (Bronnie) Brown, Jeanne Gustafson-Miilu and Teresa (Don) Ladner; grandchildren, Staci (Jeff) Little, Joshua (Kristy) Morgan, Joseph Rodes, Jessica (Adam) Westfall, Kristin (Cameron) O’Neill, Taylor (Kyle Willer) Miilu, Erik Milks, Alfonso, Megan, Madison and Mallory Ladner; great-grandchildren, Jacqueline Benda, Andrew Browers, Sophia Ramirez, Aiden Westfall and Rosalie O’Neill; great-great grandchild, Milo Benda and several nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.

Visitation will be held at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes East Lansing Chapel on Wednesday, October 9th from 5:00-8:00 pm followed by a funeral Mass on Thursday, October 10th at 11:00 am at St. Thomas Aquinas. A Rosary will be prayed Wednesday at 5 pm.
