Marjorie P. Amendt

Marjorie Amendt, 89, passed away peacefully in her home on September 10, 2022 after a series of health issues including dementia, with her loving and devoted husband Gordon by her side. Marge was born on July 8, 1933 in Ashtabula, Ohio, to Winifred and Allen Post.

She graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1955 with a degree in education. It was there that she met the love of her life, Gordon, and set off on a lifetime journey with her best friend. They started their life together in Dayton, Ohio, where Marge made the decision to be a stay-at-home mother and lovingly made raising her four children her life’s work. They moved to East Lansing, Michigan in 1967 where they eventually became big MSU fans, attending men’s and women’s basketball games as well as hockey. As devoted hockey fans, they even named two of their cats Simpson and Mason after a player and head coach.

Marge and Gordon were fortunate to have many travel opportunities through Gordon’s work at Farm Bureau Insurance. They continued to enjoy travel after Gordon retired, particularly enjoying Augusta, Georgia where they were able to attend many Master’s Golf Tournaments with her brother Don and sister-in-law Alice. Wherever she was, Marge became instant friends with everyone she met. She loved learning about people and welcomed all she met into her family.

Marge’s annual Christmas letter was legendary, proudly updating all her children’s “accomplishments” from the past year, no matter how mundane. In her eyes, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were everything and even the mundane deserved mention. Nothing made her happier than having her entire family gathered together, no matter what the reason or occasion.

Marge is survived by her husband of 68 years, Gordon; children, Beth (Mark) Middleton, David (Leslee Fisher), Meg (Nate) Thompson, and Amy (Mark) Allen; grandchildren, Cory (Andria) Amendt and Jordan Amendt; great-grandchildren, Claire and Calvin; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Alice Post; sister-in-law, Barbara Kessie; many nieces and nephews; and cherished lifelong friends, the Judy family of Columbus, Ohio.

The family would like to extend a gracious and loving, “thank you” to the amazing caregivers of First Light Home Care for their tireless and devoted care of Marge over the last few years as well as the tender care provided by Grace Hospice.

A memorial service for Marjorie will be held Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at 11:00 AM, with a one-hour prior visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Ave, East Lansing, MI 48823.
