Born December 6, 1952 in Cadillac, MI to Charles Ellis and Lois (Ziegler) Ellis, passed away peacefully at home on April 17, 2017. Mark graduated from Haslett High School (1971, Top Ten) and was a graduate of Michigan State University as a civil engineer. Passing the registration exam the first time, Mark became a P.E. (Registered Civil Engineer). He worked for MDOT for over 30 years in original surveys, construction, and maintenance.
Mark was a member of the Greater Lansing Woodcarvers Club. He enjoyed carving hunting decoys, caricatures and ornaments. Enjoying reading, he read the entire Robert Jordan "Wheel of Time" series as a test of endurance.
Mark is survived by his loving wife of over 40 years, Donna (Hatt) Ellis,his brother Michael (Beverly) Ellis, of Plymouth, MI, and his beloved niece Amanda Harris (Chioke) and their children, Alexander, Bryce and Mia. His parents pre-deceased him. Married into a large family, Mark is survived by more than sixteen nieces and nephews, and thirty great nieces and nephews. Mark also had several nieces and nephews "by love". He leaves a legacy as a "Proud Uncle" loving and cherishing each and every one. No illness or pain could take that from him.
A memorial service will be held Monday, April 24, at 11:00 a.m. at Haslett Community Church. Visitation will be Sunday, April 23, at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, East Lansing (1730 E. Grand River Ave.) from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Donations to the Haslett Food Pantry,1427 Haslett Rd., Haslett, MI 48840 in Mark's name would be welcome and appreciated.
