

Mary Helen Hecker, East Lansing, MIMary Helen (Duffy) Hecker was born February 27, 1923 to John Duffy and Helen (Rocliffe) Duffy in Newport, KY. She died peacefully December 16, 2009 at age 86. She was preceded in death in 2007 by her husband of 59 years, Stanley Eugene Hecker Jr. Surviving are two sons, Stan III (Dawn) and Steve (Linda); four grandchildren, Cara (Brian) Genisio, Joanna, Katie, and James; and one great-grandchild, Maia Genisio. Mary was a loving wife and mother, and a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother, relishing each role in its own time and in her uniquely gentle way. She spent many years as a volunteer for the American Red Cross, serving in various capacities including Board member and from 1980-1988, Chairman of Volunteers. She also volunteered at Sparrow Hospital and was a Board member there as well. She was a consummate hostess for many events where her warmth and friendliness were legend. She left this world a better place, having touched many with charm and grace. Special thanks are extended to all her caregivers, both in her home and at Timber Ridge, who filled her autumnal days with friendship, comfort, and joy. A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 19, 2009 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River Ave, East Lansing. The family will receive friends Friday, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mary would have welcomed contributions to the American Red Cross, Mid-Michigan Chapter, P.O.
