Mary Ellen Wood

Okemos, Michigan

Born February 23, 1932 in Lansing, Michigan to William and Emma Early; passed away July 22, 2012, at the age of 80. Mary Ellen and her husband Robert E. Wood, Sr. started their family service station in 1959, now Wood’s Okemos Marathon. Mary Ellen provided the bookkeeping services until her retirement in 2011. She was a long time Librarian at Resurrection School and past member of the Resurrection Altar Society. Mary Ellen was a charter member of St. Martha Catholic Church.

Mary Ellen is preceded in death by her husband Robert E. Wood, Sr. (1992); son ,Robert E. Wood, Jr. (2000); Daughter, Eileen Knape (2010); son-in-law, Brad Canen (2009); sister, Patricia Winans and brother, William Early. She is survived by her daughters, Katherine Wood of East Lansing and Susan Canen of Laingsburg; sons, Jim (Julie) and John Wood, all of Haslett; 9 grandchildren, Andrew, Noah, Caleb and Kristin Wood, Lisa Canen, Mary Emma (John) LaCross, Elizabeth and Stephen Knape and Josh Kindy; great-grandson, Benjamin LaCross; sister, Barbara Heinritz and several nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 26, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Martha Catholic Church, 1100 E. Grand River Ave., Okemos with the Rev. Jonathan Wehrle, officiating. The Rite of Committal will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Lansing. The family will receive friends at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 where a Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Mary Ellen’s family wishes you would spend time with your family.
