Michael Don Smelker

Michael Smelker, 76, of Lansing, Michigan, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026. Born on December 27, 1949, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Michael lived a life filled with dedication to his family, community, and passions.

Michael graduated from Eastern High School and went on to earn an associate degree from Lansing Community College. He dedicated 28 years of his career to working as a security guard, ensuring the safety and well-being of others. In addition to his professional life, Michael served as a volunteer firefighter with the City of DeWitt Fire Department for 14 years, exemplifying his commitment to serving his community.

Michael was a man who cherished the outdoors and found joy in activities such as hunting and fishing. He loved spending time on the water pontooning and gathering around campfires with loved ones. His happy-go-lucky nature brought warmth and laughter to those around him. Above all else, Michael deeply loved his family and took immense pride in his grandchildren.

He is survived by his children and siblings: Jeremy and Kimberly Smelker; Christopher and Tonya Smelker; and Emily and Kevin Adams. Siblings: Sharon and Jeff Davis and Roger Smelker.

Michael was also a proud grandfather to Taylor Smelker, Austin Smelker, Braeden Smelker, Andrew Schneider, Greyson Schneider, Sara Schneider, Isaac Woodmansee, and Isobel Woodmansee.

Michael was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan Smelker, whom he held dear throughout their life together.

Michael’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May his legacy of love for family and community bring comfort to all who mourn his passing. A Celebration of Life will be held on April 18, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 02:00 PM at Our Savior Lutheran Church 7910 E St Joe Highway Lansing Mi 48917. Celebration of Life Service will be for Susan Smelker (3/11/52 - 12/26/26) as well.
